A man who went to a police station in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh to file a complaint was shocked by an unusual demand made by the cops. Chanchal Kumar, who had lost his mobile phone, went to the police station to file a complaint, but a police officer asked him to hand over a kilogram of “jalebis‘ first. Angry about his lost cell phone, the man had no choice but to comply with the policeman’s request.

The incident took place in Kanaur village, around 91 km from the state capital Lucknow, in the catchment area of ​​Bahadurgarh police station. On Saturday evening, Chanchal went to buy medicines when he lost his mobile phone. Despite a thorough search, he could not find it.

At the police station, the police officer asked the plaintiff to either Balushahi (a North Indian sweet) or spicy Jalebis for them.

When Mr. Kumar sensed that the policeman would not give in, he bought Jalebis from the store, whereupon the police officer took his report.

Earlier this month, a sub-inspector in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh was suspended for demanding “potatoes” as a bribe. Investigations revealed that the word “potato” was used as a code word for bribery. The incident came to light after an alleged audio recording of police officer Ram Kripal Singh demanding bribe to settle a case went viral on social media.

Days later, another police officer was suspended for demanding a cool box as a bribe in Uttar Pradesh. Manish Kumar Prajapati – posted in Mau district in eastern Uttar Pradesh – was accused by a man of demanding a cool box and Rs 6,000 as a bribe from his wife. The man, Om Prakash Sharma of Katghara Shankar village, also alleged that Mr Prajapati had abused his wife in a telephone conversation.
