1. Above all else that happened in Chapel Hill on Saturday, just an incredibly sad day for the family and friends of Tylee Craft and the entire Carolina community. The Tar Heel basketball players, who met Tylee last season when he worked with the team, wore #TyleeStrong T-shirts during warmups. A minute’s silence was observed before the game. Craft was 23 years old.

2. In the game, Blue won a 63:53 victory over White. The game was played in two 12-minute halves. Pat Sullivan And Brad Frederick trained the white team while Sean May And Marcus Paige coached the Blues. Hubert Davis And Jeff Lebo sat on the sidelines.

3. White Starters: RJ Davis, Ian Jackson, Jae’Lyn Withers, Drake Powell And Jalen Washington. Blue starters: Elliot Cadeau, Cade Tyson, Ven Allen Lubin, Seth Trimble And James Brown.

4. Most importantly, after Davis fell heavily following a mid-air collision in the second half, he appeared to be fine. There is no way the Tar Heels can lose the current ACC Player of the Year. In a few minutes, Davis shot 2 of 6 and scored nine points.

5. The top scorer of the day was Seth Trimblewho shot a three-pointer – a focus for him this offseason – but also showed off the dynamic athleticism that has always been his trademark. Trimble’s one-handed dunk over a teammate in the second half was spectacular.

6. Rebounding will be an ongoing important area for this team. The day’s top rebounders were Washington with seven and a trio of Tar Heels (Withers, Claude and Brown) with six. Too many offensive rebounds were allowed at the start of the game –Hubert Davis I’d certainly like to mention the fact that the first two possessions of the game included a missed box out, which resulted in the entire offensive team running during practice – but the Heels got better and better on the defensive glass as the game progressed.

7. Freshers: Ian Jackson scored 10 on 14 shots, Brown had nine and Powell had eight.

8. Cadeau had four assists and also made his only three-pointer of the afternoon. The two teams combined to shoot just eight for 25 from three-point range, albeit with Davis limited. Scale will ultimately be a strength.

9. When ticket sales are combined with proceeds from the sale of signed basketballs (which begins December 1), the basketball program will donate $121,230 to hurricane relief.

10. Looking ahead, Carolina travels to Memphis for a friendly on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. In addition to airing on ESPNU, there will be full coverage from Tar Heel Sports Network. The Heels will be back at the Smith Center on October 27th to face Johnson C. Smith before opening the regular season against Elon on November 4th.

11. It’s impossible to end the day without reiterating what a heartbreaking day it is in Chapel Hill. Tylee Craft came here looking forward to making a big impact on Carolina by catching passes and scoring touchdowns. It turned out to have a much, much bigger impact that will reverberate in Tar Heel football and Carolina history much longer than just a few statistics. Of course, there are enormous medical costs associated with his long battle. Fans can contribute to a GoFundMe for the family here.
