SAN ANTONIO – Two bodies were found within four days at the Victoria Plaza Apartments on the West Side.

According to San Antonio police, officers were called to the 400 block of Barrera at approximately 9:29 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, to conduct a welfare check. When they entered the place, they found a lifeless man inside. Evidence of foul play was found on the victim’s part.

The male victim has since been identified by the coroner’s office as 59-year-old Nick Martinez. His manner of death was ruled a homicide and the cause of death was listed as sharp force injuries.

A second person was found dead in an apartment in the same complex around 10:27 a.m. Friday morning. According to preliminary SAPD reports, a man in his 60s was found dead in an apartment at the scene. The police are currently investigating on site and a cause of death has not yet been determined.

Our reporter Taylor Whartnaby spoke to the second victim’s family, who identified the man as Donnell Sterling. The family says they last spoke to Sterling on Sept. 26 and have been trying to reach him since then. They also said a neighbor called about a foul smell in his apartment and their relative usually kept to himself.

Victoria Plaza is part of Opportunity Home San Antonio, an affordable housing organization for disabled seniors. Opportunity Home released a statement saying they are actively evaluating safety measures at the complex and are working with authorities to address safety concerns at the property.
