The US team is close to victory. The European team has been pushed to the brink of the abyss.

However, both teams are following the same strategy, sending their strongest players onto the field first and presenting their lineups for the singles matches on Sunday at the Solheim Cup.

In what is expected to be a memorable opening match, American Nelly Korda, who was unbeaten this week, winning each of the first three sessions before sitting out on Saturday afternoon, will face European Charley Hull, who has played every match this week and has a record of 2-2-0.

Hull was in the second group on the first tee at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club on Saturday and was the last player there nearly 11 hours later when she and Georgia Hall played all 18 holes, defeating Allisen Corpuz and Lillia Vu.

The second meeting on Sunday should also be quite exciting: Megan Khang, the bundle of energy of the US team this week, will face Emily Pedersen, who, like Hull, is tied with the best record of the European team with 2-2-0.

With the Americans holding a 10-6 advantage after splitting all eight games on Saturday, the front-loading strategy makes sense for both sides. The European team wants to put blue flags on the scoreboard as early as possible to keep alive hopes of the biggest finals comeback in event history. The Americans want to do everything they can to prevent that from happening.

The US team needs just 4.5 points to regain the trophy, while the Europeans need eight points to at least defend it.
