TSMC begins work on a €10 billion auto chip factory in Germany

The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has started work on a 10 billion euro plant in Dresden.

The European Commission had previously approved state subsidies of five billion euros for the world’s largest chip manufacturer.

With the plant in Dresden, TSMC is building its first European site, which will specialize in chips for the automotive and industrial sectors.

The company announced its choice of location for Dresden in August 2023.

Production is scheduled to begin in 2027, with target capacity of 40,000 chips per month by the end of 2029.
