Trump’s “God Bless the USA” Bible was made in China

The former president promises to bring production back from China while profiting from their goods

Donald Trump’s “God Bless the USA” Bibles were printed in China.

The Bibles – fake editions of the King James Bible that contain some of the country’s founding documents and the text of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” – have been heavily promoted by the Trump campaign, even as the former president attacks China as such a threat to American jobs and manufacturing.

The Bibles, which retail for $59.99, are made by a printing company in Hangzhou, China, for less than $3 each, according to a report by The Associated Press on Wednesday. Import and export shipping records analyzed by the AP identified three separate Bible shipments with an estimated value of $342,000, suggesting $7 million in proceeds from the theft.

Trump produced the Bibles in collaboration with Greenwood and is offering special editions, including a signed copy that retails for $1,000 and a “The Day God Intervened” edition commemorating the July assassination attempt on Trump. The website selling the Bibles claims no connection to Trump’s presidential campaign, only using his “name, likeness and likeness under a paid license from CIC Ventures LLC.”

Trump once received $300,000 in royalties from sales of the Bible, according to financial disclosures reviewed by The Associated Press. The disclosures did not make clear what sales period the amount covered or whether additional payments have been made since then.

For all the stylization of the Bible as a pro-American product, its production in China directly contradicts Trump and his campaign’s rhetoric toward China. The former president has proposed imposing a tariff of 60 percent or more on Chinese goods and promised that his return to office would trigger a “mass exodus” of industry from China to the United States.

On trend

During this month’s vice presidential debate, Trump’s running mate JD Vance praised the former president for having the “wisdom and courage” to bring American manufacturing back from China.

It’s hard to imagine how that could happen if Trump peddles the products of his supposed trade opponent.
