Trump will continue the swing state tradition at the final campaign event of 2024

Former President Trump will continue the tradition of ending his presidential campaigns in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the same location where he ended his 2016 and 2020 White House bids.

The Trump campaign announced the event will be held at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. Doors will open to fans at 6:30 p.m. and Trump is scheduled to speak at 10:30 p.m

The event marks the third time Trump has ended his campaign with a nighttime rally in Grand Rapids, emphasizing the importance of the swing state of Michigan to his chances of retaking the White House.

Trump ended his successful 2016 presidential campaign with a nighttime rally at the DeVos Place convention center in downtown Grand Rapids and then ended his unsuccessful reelection with a rally at the Grand Rapids airport.

“I always said we have to stop here. …We can be a little superstitious, right?” Trump asked his supporters during the 2020 rally in the city.

Trump narrowly won the state of Michigan in 2016 against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton before dropping the state in another close race with President Biden in 2020.

Polls show another close race looming in 2024, with the Real Clear Politics polling average giving Harris a slight lead of 0.6 points as of Sunday. According to ElectionBettingOdds.com, Harris also had a narrow lead in the betting odds in Michigan on Sunday and had a 59.7% chance of winning the state. Meanwhile, the latest Fox News Power Rankings rate Michigan as a failure.

Kent County, where Grand Rapids is located, promises to be one of the state’s major swing counties in 2024. The country has long been a Republican stronghold, but in recent years it has moved more towards Democrats. Trump won the county by three points in 2016, but lost the county to Biden by six points in 2020.

“Michiganders love a late night rally, and President Trump loves Michigan,” Victoria LaCivita, communications director for Team Trump Michigan, told Fox News Digital. “Team Trump knew from the start that the path to the White House lay directly through Michigan, so there is no better place to conclude a historic and momentous campaign season.”
