Trumbull Mall is hosting a food truck festival this weekend

TRUMBULL, CT — Trumbull Mall is celebrating the start of Sales Tax Free Week by hosting the Connecticut State Food Truck Festival this weekend.

According to a press release from the mall, the festival will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In addition to the nearly 30 confirmed food trucks, festival-goers will find a DJ, bouncy castles and other activities for kids, 25 other small businesses and vendors, and several eating contests.

The Connecticut Food Eating Wars semifinals will be held on Saturday at noon and the finals will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. The winner will receive a cash prize of $2,500.

Admission is free, as is parking throughout the Trumbull Mall.

Confirmed food trucks include: Mooriah’s Ice Cream, Paradise Island, Tino’s Wings, Steak Tips, Low N Slow Catering, Jayy’s, J’s Crabshack, Poutine Supreme, Sultankebab, Amy’s Sweet Treats, Cone Head Heaven, Chris’s Concessions, Chompers, Cricket, Hot Chix Chicken, Scatz Twisted Phillyz , Food Truck Cinco De Mayo, TACOS LOS MIACHOCANOS, Mexican Street Corn, Fried Dough Nation, Smashpad, The Rolling Roti Food Truck, Makin Bacon Heaven, Come Ahead Heaven, Tater Tot Heaven, Meat Eater Heaven and Lemonade Grenade.

Tax-free shopping begins Sunday and lasts through August 24, just in time for the start of school. All week long, retail purchases of most clothing and footwear priced under $100 are exempt from Connecticut sales and use taxes.

The exemption during the sales tax-free week applies to all eligible items priced under $100, regardless of how many of those items are sold on the same invoice.

“We have already seen an uptick in business as we approach the end of summer,” said Chris Powers, general manager of Trumbull Mall, in a press release, “and look forward to the additional customer traffic that the food truck festival and sales tax-free week will bring.”

For shoppers who can’t make it during the sales tax-free week, the mall will be open on Labor Day (Sept. 2) from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Department store and restaurant hours may vary.
