Truck driver drove too close to other vehicle in fatal accident on I-465

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indiana State Police accident report blames the driver of the semi-trailer truck for the crash that killed a 9-year-old boy in July.

According to the report, the tractor-trailer’s 24-year-old driver, Dieuson Leron, changed his statement to police about the cause of the accident. He initially told police he was driving eastbound onto I-465 from the on-ramp, but later told investigators he was already on the highway when he caused the accident.

Leron drove a truck for Forward A2B Incorporated, a company based in Illinois. I-Team 8 contacted Forward A2B Incorporated for comment, but they had no comment. According to statistics from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Forward A2B Incorporated employs 15 trucks and 15 drivers.

Over the past two years, Forward A2B Incorporated’s trucks have been involved in 10 accidents, not including the fatal accident on I-465. During the same period, their trucks have been inspected 30 times. In 50% of cases, the inspection resulted in the truck being taken out of service, which is higher than the national average.

In the last two years, their drivers have been checked 85 times. Six of these checks resulted in a driver being taken out of service, which is also above the national average.

FMCSA statistics do not indicate whether Leron was among the drivers who had previously failed an inspection, but Indiana State Police said Leron was not following driving hour regulations at the time of the accident.

I-Team 8 reached out to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles to find out if there were any other serious violations on Leron’s commercial driver’s license, but there was no response at the time of this article’s publication.

The Marion County District Attorney’s Office said it is investigating this case to determine whether charges will be filed against Leron.
