Tropical unrest heading toward Florida begins to subside

2 tropical disturbances will not affect our weather this week

NHC: Two disorders

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Many questions continue to flood our newsroom about the “hurricane” in the Gulf. This statement remains untrue.

There is no named storm nor is one expected to form in the next seven days.

One of the areas we’re keeping an eye on, AL94, has been somewhat shaken over the last few days.

Here is the current outlook:

  • East of the Leeward Islands (AL94 – Orange): Current satellite wind data showed that the circulation associated with a disturbance over the tropical Atlantic has become less pronounced since Tuesday, according to the National Hurricane Center. To the west-northwest, this low pressure area remains disorganized and has a low to moderate chance of development (30-40%) over the next two to seven days. A tropical one
A depression could form as the system approaches the Leeward Islands and Virgin Islands later this week.

  • Western Caribbean Sea (Yellow): Another low pressure area with associated showers and thunderstorms is located in the southwestern Caribbean Sea. This disturbance could develop if it remains afloat and moves slowly northwest toward Central America. There is a 20% chance of formation in the next 2-7 days.
