    Following Hurricane Milton, another storm is brewing in the Atlantic and will make landfall near the Tampa Bay area of ​​Florida later today or tomorrow morning.

    Both come on the heels of catastrophic Hurricane Helene, which unleashed its force across the southern Appalachians about two weeks ago after making landfall in Big Bend, Florida, as a Category 4 storm – the strongest storm ever recorded in the region. With at least 222 confirmed deaths, it is now the fourth deadliest hurricane in US history.

    Invest 93L is one of four systems in the Atlantic, along with Hurricane Leslie, which is expected to remain in the open Atlantic and dissipate early next week, Hurricane Milton and a tropical wave near Cabo Verde.

    Although environmental conditions are becoming increasingly unfavorable for development, a short-lived tropical or subtropical storm could still form today or tonight as the low moves northeast to east-northeast at about 15 mph (24 km/h). Winds are forecast to become too strong in higher elevations to develop further later tonight.

    Invest 93L is currently located approximately 300 miles west-southwest of Bermuda and will have no impact on Texas regardless of further developments.

    Invest 93L could develop into Tropical Storm Nadine today, although conditions will become less favorable. The system, located east of Florida, is moving northeast at 15 miles per hour.

    If it develops, it would be the 14th named storm of the season.

    Earlier this year, meteorologists warned of a possible record hurricane season with the formation of 17 to 24 named storms, of which eight to 13 would develop into hurricanes. In an average year there are 14 named storms, seven of which are hurricanes.

    This year, the season has already seen 13 named storms – nine of which have developed into hurricanes.

    • Hurricane Milton: Tornadic supercells from Category 4 Hurricane Milton begin to sweep across the South Florida peninsula. On Florida’s west coast, the time for preparations, including evacuation if ordered, is quickly coming to an end. A life-threatening storm surge is expected to make landfall near Tampa Bay or Sarasota later today or tomorrow morning.
    • Hurricane Leslie: Continues to strengthen over the Central Atlantic but is expected to dissipate into the open ocean early next week and poses no threat to land.
    • Malfunction 1: This system is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Nadine later today, but is expected to move northeast away from land. The chance of developing within 48 hours is 30% and the chance of developing within seven days is 30%.
    • Malfunction 2: A tropical wave is expected to move off the west coast of Africa tonight or early Thursday. Environmental conditions appear to be marginally favorable for limited development as it moves westward or west-northwestward across the eastern tropical Atlantic and through the Cape Verde Islands on Friday. The storm is unlikely to form within the next week.
