Tropical Storm Gordon formed in the eastern Atlantic on Friday. while the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking several systems over the Atlantic basin this week.

The hurricane season has reached its peak. Gordons, formerly Tropical Depression Seven, has gained enough strength to reach tropical storm status.

Where is Tropical Storm Gordon heading?

The NHC said tropical storm Gordon will likely remain over open water for the next few days.

It is currently moving in a west-northwest direction. Its speed is expected to slow down but it will maintain its west-west-northwest direction over the next few days.

“Currently, the official forecast is for the system to be a tropical cyclone for the entire forecast period,” the NHC said Friday. “Some recovery is possible on days 4 and 5 when the system reaches a slightly wetter, more unstable, and low-shear environment.”

Currently, no impact on the United States is expected.

Area to be observed off the southeast coast of the USA

The NHC said a non-tropical low pressure system could form within a few days a few hundred miles off the southeastern U.S. coast.

Once the low pressure system has formed, subtropical or tropical development is possible early next week as the system moves north or northwest.

Southeast can expect rain this weekend as tropical problems may develop near the coast

According to the NHC, the probability of development in the next seven days is low.
