CROZET, VA (NOW CVILLE) –

Tornado warning for Albemarle County

CROZET, VA (NOW CVILLE) – The National Weather Service in Sterling, Virginia has issued a Tornado warning for west-central Albemarle County, valid until 4:00 p.m. EDT.

At 3:24 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was detected 7 miles south of Crozet, moving north at a speed of 40 miles per hour. The storm is expected to reach Crozet at 3:30 p.m. Radar has indicated rotation and residents in the path of the storm should take immediate precautions.

Effects: Flying debris can pose a danger to people without shelter. Damage to the roof, facade and windows can occur. Mobile homes are particularly at risk and tree damage is likely.

Affected locations include Crozet, Yancey Mills, Ivy, North Garden and White Hall.

Precautions:
Residents should move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in an RV, or in a vehicle, find the nearest suitable shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
