    The increasing emphasis on passing has further increased the value of the NFL’s best cornerbacks.

    Shutdown cornerbacks are very hard to find, as the best in the league are able to block the best wide receivers – or at least limit them, as the rules are heavily biased toward offense. The skill required to master the position is also considerable, as wide receiver-cornerback duels are some of the most intense one-on-one matchups in the game. Because of this, the highest-paid cornerbacks earn around $20 million annually per season. In total, 19 cornerbacks earn average eight-figure annual salaries.

    Who is the highest paid cornerback in the NFL?

    Pat Surtain II redefined the cornerback market on September 4, 2024, by agreeing to a four-year, $96 million contract extension with the Denver Broncos. The terms of the deal represented a huge jump over the previous high set by Jaire Alexander of the Green Bay Packers (four years, $84 million).
