Tom Selleck vents his “frustration” over Blue Bloods cancellation: “Took for granted”

Blue blood Star Tom Selleck has expressed his disappointment at the cancellation of the lengthy police procedural, admitting it will take him a “long time” to get over it.

The 79-year-old actor, who has led the series since it began in 2010 as New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, spoke about the series finally coming to an end after 14 seasons.

“I’m kind of frustrated. During these last eight shows, I didn’t want to talk about an ending Blue blood but about the fact that it is still extremely successful,” Selleck said TV Insider.

“I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!'” he said, then talked about the show’s audience success.

“I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you said to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can schedule in the worst time slot you have, and that will guarantee you the next one on Friday night 15 shows gain years, it would be almost impossible to believe,” he said.

For much of his run Blue blood aired Friday nights at 10 p.m. on CBS. Still, it maintained its status as one of the top dramas on television, reaching 9.54 million viewers during its 2022-2023 run.

“My frustration is that the show has always been taken for granted because it worked right from the start. How do I feel? “It’s going to take a long time to sort this all out,” Selleck said.

Blue blood is preparing to air the final eight episodes starting October 18th. The first ten episodes of season 14 aired earlier this year.

CBS announced the cancellation of the crime drama about a multi-generational family of New York City police officers in late April.

The decision came despite pleas from Selleck and his co-stars Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynihan for the network to rethink.

At a previous joint appearance on The Drew Barrymore ShowWahlberg and Moynihan responded to the show’s cancellation.

When asked if they were upset and sad but also happy and satisfied by the news, Wahlberg, who stars as NYPD detective Danny Reagan, replied: “Even more upset and sad.”

Moynihan, who plays Erin Reagan-Boyle, head of the New York County District Attorney’s Office, added: “I think it’s more about saying goodbye to the people behind the characters. We created such a family on set with each other and with the crew – most of the crew have been with us for 14 years, so we’ve seen a lot of weddings, births, deaths and everything else.”

Season 14 of Blue blood Continues October 18th on CBS at 10pm ET/PT.
