Today’s word #1,222 with hints, hints and answers for Wednesday October 23rd

It’s the middle of the week, so if you’re struggling with Wednesday Wordle Puzzle, Newsweek is here to help.

The game was invented during the coronavirus lockdown by Josh Wardle, a software engineer who wanted a puzzle “that me and my partner would enjoy”. Wardle released Wordle launched to the public in October 2021 and quickly gained a loyal audience, with some players sharing their results and strategies on social media daily.

After its public debut, the puzzle exploded from 90 users on November 1, 2021 to 300,000 on January 2, 2022. This New York Times purchased it shortly thereafter for an undisclosed seven-figure sum and it quickly became the most popular game on the release.

A big part of it WordleThe appeal lies in its simplicity. Players are tasked with guessing a mysterious five-letter word – and must do so in a maximum of six attempts. They are helped by a color-coded tile system: green means they entered the letter correctly; Yellow indicates that the letter appears in the word but is in the wrong place. and finally, a gray tile indicates that the letter does not appear in the word at all.

If you find yourself increasingly frustrated with the game, Noël Wolf, linguistics expert and Babbel Live teacher, recommends “being strategic with your second guess.”

“As difficult as it may seem — especially if your first word has a few real letters — using a completely separate set of letters whenever possible allows you to rule out more possibilities with fewer guesses,” she said Newsweek.

“For example, if it’s your first time Wordle Guess is “Crane” and you discover that C and R are correct. Instead of guessing a word like “cross,” try another word like “plumb.” This uses new letters and explores different vowel placements, increasing your chances of narrowing down the possibilities.”

When all else fails, remember the proverbial phrase “patience is a virtue” and “walk away from the screen,” Wolf added.

“Sometimes it can seem harder to solve the game if you’re constantly staring at your phone. Try taking a piece of paper and writing down the word with the blank letters and see if any words jump out at you that way,” she said.
