A Purdue University-led team has won a project from the Microelectronics Commons program to advance artificial intelligence hardware under the CHEETA initiative, using a CMOS+MRAM approach for efficient in-memory computing systems. This project brings together experts from academia, industry and national laboratories to translate more than a decade of groundbreaking research from the laboratory to manufacturing.

Purdue University, in collaboration with elf Cosmetics, trend-driven beauty for every eye, lip and face, hopes to strike the right chord with young music fans who may find harmony between an education and an eventual career in a STEM-related field . As part of concert fever in Indianapolis, Purdue is hosting a free, fan-friendly makerspace called “In Our STEM Era” at Circle Center Mall on November 2nd and 3rd. The collaboration is led by the university’s internal marketing agency Purdue Brand Studio and is intended to encourage young women’s enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Purdue President Mung Chiang was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences on September 21. Founded in 1780, the Academy honors excellence and convenes leaders from all areas of human endeavor to examine new ideas and address issues of importance to the nation and the world and collaborate. Chiang, the Roscoe H. George Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was elected to the class of Mathematical and Physical Sciences in the field of Engineering and Technology. There are currently 11 Purdue members in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has appointed David A. Ricks, chairman and CEO of Eli Lilly and Company, to the Purdue University Board of Trustees, effective January 1, 2025, through July 1, 2027. Ricks, a Purdue alumnus with a prestigious award after a career in the pharmaceutical industry, will fill the position left vacant by the impending retirement of Chief Executive Officer Michael Berghoff. The trustees elected Gary Lehman and Mike Klipsch as chairman and vice chairman, respectively. Under Ricks’ leadership, Lilly has made significant advances in research and development, focusing on innovation and collaborative support in healthcare.

The Purdue University Police Department recently welcomed two new officers, Kevin Jones and Martin Schap, and promoted McKenzie Wagner to sergeant. Jones brings experience from the university’s computer science department, while Schap previously worked as an officer with the Lafayette Police Department. Wagner, who was named Crisis Intervention Officer of the Year, will lead a patrol shift and bring her expertise to crisis negotiations and training. Director Lesley Wiete expressed confidence in the new employees and their diverse backgrounds and emphasized the department’s commitment to improving safety on campus.
