Today is the first weather warning day as severe storms are possible

SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – Today is a First weather warning day in eastern parts of the area. There is a 2 in 5 risk of severe weather later today in parts of eastern South Dakota, western Minnesota and northern Iowa. Thunderstorms developing later today could bring stronger wind gusts and possibly large hail. There is also an isolated threat of tornadoes. Once the sun sets and the storms move east tonight, the severe weather threat will decrease quickly.

Clouds will gradually decrease from west to east throughout Thursday morning, providing more sunshine and windy weather Thursday day. This will lead to further grassland fire danger across much of central and western South Dakota. This will also be the case Friday, with highs of 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius) expected on both days.

We’re expecting a higher chance of rain over the weekend as temperatures start to drop. Autumn officially begins on Sunday and highs will be just 15 degrees. There’s a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms early next week before it dries out mid to late next week and temperatures stay below 25 degrees, eventually rising above 25 degrees by the end of next week.
