Tips for improving your harvest |

Growing a plum tree can be a rewarding experience for any gardener. Plum trees, Prunus domestica are members of the Rose – or Rosaceae – family, so it is not surprising that they put on a magnificent display of flowers in spring. They typically produce single, five-petaled flowers in delicate shades of white and pink that wither and fall off before fruit production begins in the summer months.

However, if your plum tree isn’t producing fruit, it can be disappointing and concerning. Much like learning how to get a fig tree to produce fruit, for example, plum trees require a combination of ideal weather, nutrients, and a little help from pollinators.

As a professional gardener, I have grown plums in various places where I have worked in the UK and Italy. I have had some bumper crops, but also some disappointing harvests. However, those bad years have given me important lessons to learn from and here I share everything I know about the right approach to get the most out of your plum trees. Whether you are growing large plum trees in your beds or small Fruit trees in potsI have all the information you need to succeed.
