Timberwolves to remain with Bally Sports North for 2024-25 season

The Timberwolves will be on television on Bally Sports North for at least another year.

Diamond Sports Group, operator of Bally Sports’ regional sports networks, has signed a new deal with the NBA and NHL that will ensure games will be broadcast at least through the 2024-25 season. Diamond Sports Group filed for bankruptcy in March 2023, a saga that is still ongoing.

Although Diamond dropped two NBA teams during the process of working out the deal – the Dallas Mavericks and the New Orleans Pelicans – the Wolves remain among the 13 teams to which Diamond owns the rights.

The other teams under the Bally Sports umbrella are the Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Paces, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Orlando Magic and the San Antonio Spurs.

Across the river, the Minnesota Wild are among nine NHL teams remaining with Bally Sports.

Diamond is fighting its way through bankruptcy court and must undergo a hearing to confirm its path forward. The hearing was originally scheduled for June 18 but was pushed back to late July, and Diamond has since asked for more time as part of its agreement with Comcast.

In a battle that left many baseball fans frustrated, Diamond and Comcast were unable to reach an agreement for months, making Bally Sports broadcasts inaccessible to Comcast customers. The two companies recently reached a settlement that brought the Bally Sports channels back to Comcast systems.

It remains unclear whether the deal with Comcast will be enough to get Diamond out of bankruptcy. If the company is unable to do so, its contracts with the NBA and NHL will end after the season.
