    Tigers catcher Jake Rogers will play in Game 5 after a negative X-ray

    CLEVELAND – The Detroit Tigers avoided a serious injury to one of their key players, but are still waiting to hear from another player.

    After the back-and-forth loss to the Guardians in Game 4 of the ALDS, Tigers catcher Jake Rogers underwent an X-ray of his left wrist after hitting multiple foul balls into the same area just above the glove.

    Rogers had his left forearm and wrist wrapped in ice in the Tigers’ locker room after Game 4.

    The good news is that the X-rays were clear and Rogers should be ready for the massive Game 5 showdown in Cleveland on Saturday (8:08 p.m., TBS).

    Rogers has started every game of the playoffs so far and has also been behind the plate in every one of Tarik Skubal’s starts this season, a testament to his endurance. Skubal is ready to set up the decisive Game 5 for the Tigers after turning in dominant performances in his first two career playoff starts.

    In the meantime, we’re still waiting for an update on the status of slugger Kerry Carpenter, who suffered a hamstring injury in the bottom of the sixth inning while scoring on a single from Wenceel Pérez from second base.

    Carpenter began limping after rounding third base and was subbed out by Jace Jung for his next at-bat in the seventh inning.

    After the game, manager AJ Hinch said the team would wait for further testing before deciding its status for Game 5.
