Three people arrested after reported shooting near Bear River Casino | Lost Coast Outpost

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office press release:

On August 15, 2024, at approximately 3:40 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s (HCSO) officers were dispatched to the Bear River Casino in Loleta for a report of a possible shooting nearby.

Upon arrival, officers began taking statements from two men who reported being shot at from two vehicles – a silver two-door sedan and a large black pickup truck – that passed them as they walked along Brenard Road toward Carroll Road. Officers from the Bear River Police Department (BRPD) and HCSO worked together to locate the suspects at a residence in the 100 block of Carroll Road.

Due to disregard of the instructions, two suspects were taken into custody:

  • Fernando Martinez26 years old, of Visalia, for violation of probation (PC 3056) and resisting arrest (PC 148(a)(1))
  • Robert Ellis33 years old, of Loleta, for criminal possession of a weapon (PC 29800(a)(1)) and possession of an unregistered weapon (PC 24610)

Several firearms were found at the crime scene. Madison Carroll23 years old, of Loleta, was identified as a suspect in this case. On August 15th, at approximately 11 a.m., Carroll was located and arrested by BRPD for processing by HCSO officers. Carroll was taken into custody for brandishing a firearm (PC 417(a)(2)) and discharging a firearm (PC 246.3(a)).

This case is still under investigation.
