This Vogue editor wore a summery lace dress at her wedding on a mystical Greek island

Jasmine Contomichalos and Paul Masmejean met on a blind date in January 2022. Their mutual friend Emma had set them up because – although they are from New York – they were “both European,” Jasmine recalls with a laugh. (Jasmine’s mother and father are British and Greek, respectively, while Paul’s parents are French.) But despite the great similarities, Emma was spot on: “We hit it off right away and even discovered that we went to the same kindergarten in London,” says Jasmine. A year and a half later, Paul proposed to Jasmine on the Caribbean island of Canouan.

The two decided to marry on July 6 in Patmos, Greece. The mystical Aegean island – where the Apostle John is said to have written the Book of Revelation – is a meaningful place for Jasmine, the senior experiences editor at fashionHer grandparents bought a house there in the 1970s, while her own parents married there a decade and a half later. “I’ve spent every summer there since I was born,” she says. The only problem? Its isolation: Patmos has no airport and can only be reached by boat.

But the practical challenges were overcome by the nostalgic value and heart of the island. “At first I was hesitant to have our wedding there as it is remote and difficult to get to, but seeing all the people we love make the effort to come there and the traditional magic of the island made it all worth it.”

Their wedding festivities began on Thursday with lunch at a classic Greek taverna. The next evening, Paul and Jasmine hosted a rehearsal dinner in the main square of Hora, a hilltop town overlooked by a monastery. Guests wore all white, while Jasmine wore a blue dress by Khaite, paired with earrings from her grandmother and Tiffany bangles from her mother.

On Saturday afternoon, they held an Orthodox Greek ceremony in the same church where Jasmine was baptized. “We had a traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony that includes a wide range of rituals, symbols and prayers to celebrate the core meaning of marriage,” the bride explains. “Because Greek Orthodox weddings have remained almost unchanged since ancient Greece, it is difficult to understand even for native speakers, but the ritual aspect is unique and spiritual.” The same priest who baptized Jasmine all those years ago officiated the couple’s ceremony. “His familiar presence helped me relax and really enjoy this special moment with Paul.”

For the main ceremony, Jasmine wore a lace dress by Sareh Nouri. “The dress was everything I wanted: timeless, appropriate for church with its covered shoulders, and comfortable in the heat. It reminded me of a summer version of Grace Kelly’s wedding dress – the epitome of classic,” she said. The bride accessorized with Lotus earrings by Van Cleef & Arpels, borrowed from her godmother, and a vintage Chanel clamshell bag. Paul, meanwhile, wore a Loro Piana fabric suit tailored by Casely-Hayford London. Jasmine’s bridesmaids looked on in bespoke Grecian blue dresses by Alejandra Alonso Rojas.
