There is no rest for the wicked in Jon M. Chu’s film adaptation of the phenomenal stage production, and that does not only apply to the current cast. In a new featurette Evil’s release, some astute fans have discovered none other than the original Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. A powerhouse in musical theatre, Kristin Chenoweth The character debuted in the original production on Broadway in 2003. He played alongside the equally iconic Idina Menzelthe actor is the standard by which all Glindas (and Galindas) are compared.

The featurette is a look behind the scenes of the friendship that is at the heart of the film. New additions to the roles, Cynthia Erivo And ArianaGrandeexplain in detail how the relationship between Elphaba and Galinda is the true love story of the film. The clip is interspersed with footage including the complicated living situation at Emerald City’s Shiz University and even a brief glimpse of Oz, the Great and Powerful. But in between emotional interviews, fans also caught a brief glimpse of a figure resembling Chenoweth in a crowd of Emerald City citizens. Weekly entertainment provided a close-up of the shot in question, and it seems that the theatre queen is in the Evil Stage.

Kristin Chenoweth must be magically “evil”

Chenoweth’s reappearance in Evil Kanon was meant to be nothing less than magical. A star of stage and screen, there seemed to be a time when the actress would reprise her role for a feature film. But despite the huge success of the Broadway show, Evil languished in development hell for two decades. Chenoweth’s time to play Galinda is over, but her contribution to the original musical cannot be underestimated. If the actress is going to appear in the new film, she’ll need a role that lives up to her legacy.

Naturally, Evil is keeping her role under wraps. Her appearance in the film has not yet been officially confirmed, and Chenoweth’s camp did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment. Viewers can only hope that this means something big is coming. Chenoweth is too talented to be limited to just a brief cameo role. And that goes for any previous actors who may fly to the set. Fans may have noticed this slip-up from production, but who can say what other sneaky secrets Evil maybe keep it? When the film finally premieres, there could be a whole troupe of established actors spread across the double-header. Most likely, fans will have to wait until the premiere to find out. Evil is scheduled to hit theaters on November 22, 2024.
