This amazing charger takes less than 5 minutes to charge a phone

It’s a miracle! At least, that’s what Realme says about its new 320W battery charging technology, SuperSonic Charge. After the initial unveiling of SuperSonic, the super-fast charger has now been fully unveiled at an event in China, and here’s the wonderful thing about it: It can fully charge a smartphone battery in just four minutes and 30 seconds.

That’s impressive by any measure, easily beating the fastest charging speeds we’re used to from brands like OnePlus. With the right wall charger, phones like the OnePlus 12 are fully charged in just under 30 minutes. It also beats phones like the Xiaomi 13 Pro with its 120W charger, which fully charges the battery in around 20 minutes.

It’s not just the total charging time that’s impressive, with Realme’s 320W SuperSonic Charge taking one minute to reach 26% and two minutes to reach 50% capacity. These numbers come from Realme’s lab tests with the SuperSonic Charge, and while there may be some variation depending on battery capacity and regional power supply, we expect them to be close to actual performance.

Realme took two years to complete SuperSonic Charge, and it works through a combination of different technologies. One of the most important is that it apparently uses a special “folded” battery that Realme says is the first of its kind in the world. It consists of four cells with a total capacity of 4,420mAh, but is still only 3mm thick. The 320W charger itself has two USB ports and supports several proprietary charging systems, including Power Delivery and SuperVOOC, as well as something called UFCS.

This stands for Universal Fast Charging Specification and is a standard that combines various protocols into one. Since its announcement in 2022, it has been adopted by several Chinese smartphone manufacturers. Realme says the UFCS protocol enables the 320W charging power. Realme’s 320W SuperSonic Charge is an exciting development, but we don’t know when it will be available on a smartphone. Digital Trends has reached out to Realme to learn more about its rollout plans and we will update this article once we receive a response.
