There is a heated debate on the Internet about whether weddings should take place during football season

Guys, would you rather go to a wedding or watch football?

I know, for most men, this is probably a stupid question. Dress up and spend the day with a group of people you probably don’t know that well, or sit on the couch in your best jersey and yell at the TV while eating chicken wings and a 12-pack? For me, the decision is easy.

Unfortunately, football season and wedding season overlap because fall is cooler and the scenery is more beautiful for outdoor weddings, leaving couples with a choice: either take a Saturday off during football season or plan their wedding at a less-than-ideal time of year.

OK, I’m sure most couples don’t really think about football season when booking a wedding date, because I know there are a lot of other factors that come into play. But there are also diehard fans who refuse to schedule their wedding around a game of their favorite team so that they (and all their friends and fellow fans) don’t have to miss a game.

The rest of us just grumble and complain that we have to miss out on one of the few Saturdays a year when we can sit on the couch and watch football for 12 hours straight.

And apparently some people are not happy with all the whining.

One user on Twitter (who still calls it that, sorry Elon) sparked a firestorm with his opinion on the matter:

“I can’t stand people who say weddings can’t take place during football season anymore. Grow up. You’re 26.”

Firstly, Fred, I’m 36, so get this right. And it’s not like I suddenly started hating football and loving weddings on my 26th birthday. Ten years later, football is still great and weddings still suck, so stop it.

And his opinion was not well received by many football-loving Americans:

Although there were some who agreed with him:

Yes, my priority is to destroy both my physical and mental health by watching my team shit their pants every fall.

Of course, as you get older, you’ll be invited to more fall weddings, which will lead to some difficult decisions. But be warned: If you plan your wedding during football season, don’t be surprised if guests check the score or watch the game during your vows instead of doing the “Cupid Shuffle.”
