Everything we learned about 38-year-old Yankees fan Austin Capobianco in the last 24 hours was against our will. But that’s to be expected if a fan aggressively tries to lure a ball away from Mookie Betts during the World Series.

Still, the Yankees deserve some credit here. As unlikeable as Capobianco seems, the team certainly knew how to win a PR battle.

As Capobianco – who was banned from attending Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday – made his media rounds to soak up his 15 minutes, he complained to Newsday that the Yankees had not only barred him from the game but confiscated his tickets . He would have loved to give the cards to his brother and his friends. Instead, he had to settle for a refund.

Capobianco deserved no sympathy even before these comments, and the Yankees couldn’t have responded better. The team decided to redistribute these tickets to a pediatric cancer patient and his family.

Well done, Yankees.

And that’s one way to get Capobianco out of the spotlight – that time can’t come soon enough.
