The work to modernize New Hanover High School can now be followed online

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – As construction crews begin modernizing New Hanover High School, the community can track progress on a new website, according to New Hanover County Schools.

“As construction begins at New Hanover High School, New Hanover County Schools has created a webpage for families and community members detailing the work being performed and how to access various services at the school,” NHCSO explains. “Phase I of the project is underway and includes stabilizing the foundation of the south wall facing Market Street and determining the scope of work needed to repair the masonry.

“The building structure is safe and classes will resume when school starts on August 27.”

The website details how students and visitors can access the car parks and the school itself, and provides up-to-date information on the work currently being carried out.

“As the main entrance to the school is affected by the construction work, the offices will be relocated to the Princess Street side of the main building,” NHCS explains.

An open day is planned for August 21st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., where students can ask questions and tour the school.

New Hanover High School opened in 1922 and is one of the oldest high school buildings still in use in the state.
