The Withlacoochee River peaked at 19.5 feet Thursday, a full 7 feet above flood stage, causing major problems in parts of Pasco and Hernando counties.

The rise in river levels following about 10 inches of rain from Hurricane Milton has led to evacuation orders for the areas that suffered the worst impacts, including the communities of Trilby, Croom and Ridge Manor.

According to Hernando County Fire Rescue, a portion of US 301 is under water and closed near State Road 50.

A portion of US 301 near State Road 50 is flooded due to rising levels on the Withlacoochee River.

According to the district administration, around 3,400 properties were affected by the flooding.

Hernando County Emergency Management Director David DeCarlo told FOX 13 that this flooding is the worst the area has seen since the 1930s. DeCarlo also said more help is on the way.

“FEMA will be opening our disaster recovery center at the Westside Library later this week, and we will announce that,” DeCarlo said. “And we currently have our interagency resource center open at the same location where they can get resources.”

A shelter is open at the Enrichment Center at 800 John Gary Grubbs Boulevard in Brooksville. At last check, district officials said nearly 50 people were there.
