The weekend weather looks sunny and cool

This three-day stretch of vacation is often a big weekend for leaf watching, apple picking, and just relaxing. And the weather will generally cooperate this year, with milder than average conditions for part of the weekend. Be aware that traffic traveling from Boston and returning on Monday can be massive, especially from Maine and New Hampshire, where it can be slower at times than even the busiest summer weekends.

A small area of low pressure will pass to the north early Saturday. This will move a front across the entire region, although Boston and much of southern New England are expected to remain dry. The sunshine remains persistent, the air is milder – in some places it can reach 70 degrees in the afternoon, including Boston.

It can also be a bit windy during the day. If you travel north to catch some foliage, isolated rain showers may occur in northern New Hampshire and Maine this afternoon. Bring a jacket and possibly a hat and gloves if you’re up north on Saturday evening. Low temperatures may drop to 30°C and there will be some frosty spots.

A few showers are likely later Sunday evening and Monday morning. Some parts of New England will continue to experience cool evenings, with some freeze warnings throughout the region.
