‘The Vanishing’ on Disney Plus Gets Spooky Reveal and Release Date

Today is a particularly spooky day for two reasons: It is Goose flesh Creator RL Stine’s birthday (congrats on another slimy trip around the sun, Bob!) and a new season of Disney+/Hulu Goose flesh The show has been revealed, coupled with a fast-approaching release date: Friday, January 10, 2025. Unlike the previous season, all eight episodes will go live at the same time.

Goosebumps: The Disappearance is the official title for the upcoming installment of last year’s rebooted TV show, which was loosely based on the best-selling middle grade horror book series. The project is once again being developed by Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman, as well as showrunner Hilary Winston. I interviewed the former couple last year and since I really enjoyed the first season, I’m happy to hear that they’re back to further develop this growing spooky anthology.

The essential? All new characters. Completely new narrative. Probably more small town horror. Check out the new teaser below:

David Schwimmer, who stars alongside Ana Ortiz The disappearanceHe plays Anthony Brewer, “a former botany professor who dabbles in science and mystery.” This feels like a direct nod to one of the earliest works Goose flesh Books, the second entry is from 1992 to be exact, and it has been confirmed as such:

“The new season takes elements from some of the most popular books, including ‘Stay Out of the Basement’, ‘The Haunted Car’, ‘Monster Blood’, ‘The Girl Who Cried Monster’, ‘The Ghost Next Door’ and ‘The Ghost Next Door’. “Welcome to Camp Nightmare” and more.”

I find Stay away from the basement is one of the strongest Goose flesh Books, so it will be interesting to see how Stoller and Letterman bring this book into play – it seems like it will play an important role. Furthermore, many of these books could be viewed as deep cuts Goose flesh world, especially things like The Girl Who Screamed Monster And The ghost next door. These aren’t mentioned often, so it’s cool to see them listed here.

Also noteworthy The haunted carbecause it is a Goosebumps 2000 The original series’ story wasn’t published until 1999, long after the original series ended. Monster blood is the most obvious choice, simply because it is a mainstay of the series and has received numerous sequels. Welcome to Camp Nightmare is actually one of my favorites and has a nice twist ending, classic Stine. For some reason I’ve always loved the camp stories, among other things Ghost camp And The horror at Camp Jellyjam.

Here’s the quick recap of the new season so we know what to expect:

Goosebumps: The Disappearance begins when twins Cece and Devin Brewer are sent to spend a summer with their divorced father in Gravesend, Brooklyn. A threat arises and they quickly realize that dark secrets lie beneath, triggering a chain of events that uncover a deep secret. As they venture into the unknown, Cece, Devin and their friends – Alex, CJ and Frankie – get caught up in the spooky story of four teenagers who mysteriously disappeared in 1994.

Ah, a divorced father script, something we would have never seen in the original Goose flesh Books. Which is actually all well and good, because last year’s reboot wasn’t necessarily about staying true to the G-rated 90s manuscripts note for note. It was about modernizing the series and taking it in a slightly more mature direction. And if you watched the last season, you know that all of Stine’s kid-friendly rules have gone out the window, so to speak. These were characters with real life issues, and I expect season two will follow suit.

Despite some arguably uneven and occasionally cheesy lyrics, I had fun with Stoller and Letterman’s darker take Goose fleshand judging by the cryptic teaser trailer, I think we’re in for another twisted yet crazy ride in season two. “It’s for the greater good,” Schwimmer’s tortured character deadpans, and his impressively spooky performance gives me some Halloween hope. Will Schwimmer abandon his famous comedy skills and one-up Justin Long’s stellar performance in the first season? We’ll see. I almost did a ‘sway!‘ Joke, but I won’t do it. I am a professional.

It’s just a shame we have to wait until the new year for another dose of (somewhat) safe terror. The countdown begins. At least we can celebrate RL’s birthday in the meantime, maybe with some crypt cake and poltergeist punch? Bob, out of respect I won’t write how old you are. I’m just saying it rhymes with “smeighty-shwun.”
