The upcoming Francine threatens the Gulf, tomorrow the sun will shine for the Carolinas

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) — Cloudy skies and a few scattered showers are in the forecast for tonight and the first half of Monday. Lows tonight will range from 55 degrees Fahrenheit along the Border Belt to nearly 60 degrees Fahrenheit in the Pee Dee and 65 degrees Fahrenheit on the coast.

On Monday, the sun will gradually break through throughout the day. Highs will be between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius and humidity will remain comfortably low; an extra dose of autumnal conditions for the next few days. Temperatures will rise to 27 degrees Celsius over the course of the work week, but overall the weather will be mild until Thursday night.

Tropical moisture will bring up to 1 inch of rain to the Carolinas Thursday night into Saturday from the soon-to-arrive Francine.

Currently, a disorganized collection of storms in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico is considered a potential Category 6 tropical cyclone, despite already having sustained tropical storm-force winds of 50 mph. The National Hurricane Center will upgrade this area to Tropical Storm Francine tomorrow.

Francine will move north and is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane before making landfall near the Texas-Louisiana border on Wednesday.
