The Tree School Umpqua’s day of instruction focuses on forestry and natural resources topics

The Oregon State University Extension Service of Douglas County will offer a day of educational sessions on forestry and natural resources on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 8:40 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Health, Nursing, and Science Center (HNSC) at Umpqua Community College, 1140 Umpqua College Rd. in Roseburg.

Tree School Umpqua offers 24 courses on a variety of topics of interest to family forest owners, forestry and natural resource professionals, loggers, arborists, teachers, and the general public. Many courses meet continuing education credit requirements from the Society of American Foresters, Oregon Department of Agriculture, and Associated Oregon Loggers. Credit from the International Society of Arboriculture may also be available to those interested.

Class topics include forest insects and diseases, forest pollinators, forest management in a changing climate, fire, forest management planning, forest taxes, forest fungi, wildlife, invasive species control, forest foraging, tree and shrub identification, log sales, and more.

All participants must register in advance. Registration costs $70 per person if done by August 31st and $90 per person if done between September 1st and 13th.

“Classes fill up quickly and walk-ins are not allowed on the day of Tree School, so register early to secure your spot,” organizers said. “You’ll have the opportunity to attend up to four classes, enjoy lunch, and visit exhibitors who can provide you with useful information about managing and using our region’s forests and natural resources.”
