The Tentsile Safari Connect 2-person “tree tent”

This is the Safari Connect 2 Person Tree Tent from Tentsile, a company founded in 2010 by Alex Shirley-Smith specifically to make tree tents. As the name suggests, a tree tent is simply a tent that is suspended between trees (or other solid objects).

One of the main advantages of a tree tent is that the tent base acts like a hammock. This means you don’t necessarily need to pack a camping mattress (or sleeping pad), which reduces the overall weight of your backpack.

The original Tentsile tents are specifically designed to reduce the environmental impact of camping – because they are not pitched on the ground, they have minimal impact on flora. This also means that you are much less likely to be visited by unwelcome creepy crawlies at night.

The current range of Tentsile tents includes models for 1, 2, 3 and 4+ people, as well as more traditional hammocks and a selection of camping accessories.

The Safari Connect 2 Person Tree Tent is one of Tentsile’s most popular models and is described as their most robust 2 person tree tent. The Safari Connect is ideal for couples or good friends, it can support up to 400kg, meaning it can easily accommodate two people plus their gear.

The recommended pitch height is 1.2 metres or 4 feet, but some owners choose to go slightly lower or higher. The tent has a base made of durable 600D Dacron fabric with a seatbelt reinforcement that provides additional stability while separating the two sleeping areas.

The tent features a built-in Class 4 No-See-Um insect net installed as four panels or doors that can be zipped closed for protection from insects or opened up for an outdoor hammock feel. The included rainfly extends outward from the tent, giving you a large, dry area underneath.

Inside the tent you will find four internal mesh storage nets for smaller personal items, a larger pocket on the back and two storage nets under the floor for backpacks and shoes. Setting up the tent requires three ratchet straps attached to trees and two poles to hold up the roof.
