The showers subside and the autumn cold sets in

In the last two weeks, Providence not only saw its first seasonal temperature reading in the 40s, but also its first reading in the 30s. Fall has quickly arrived and into the 30s, brisk mornings will be the mainstay through midweek. Models tend to underestimate the cold at this time of year. So don’t be surprised if temperatures continue to fall below forecast lows.

There were scattered showers and rumblings overnight and we’ll have to watch out for a few more today before it dries out.

An early morning thunderstorm even produced small hail in Narragansett this morning.

Today’s shower risk remains mostly limited, with only one or two isolated showers possible.

Some sunshine returns this afternoon as the chance of rain fades. Clear skies tonight will result in a sharp drop in temperature for our Tuesday morning wake-up. Over the next few mornings there will be strong starts and the first frosts across the entire inland area. The numbers below represent what you would expect for base temperatures outside of urban environments. There will likely be many areas where temperatures will be several degrees lower.

If there’s any good news with the extended weather forecast, the cool, clear nights and bright sunny days should be the perfect recipe for fall colors. Peak leaf cover will soon be reached in the foothills, while locations near the water will have to wait closer to the end of the month.

Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS will also be in the sky this week. Whether you’re gazing at the night sky or enjoying the most beautiful leaves the season has to offer; Make sure you include your best shots. I wish you a great week and get involved!
