The Cleveland Browns are the epitome of a dumpster fire right now as Deshaun Watson’s pathetic quarterback play continues to sink the team. As a result, the 1-5 Browns are on track to be sellers at the trade deadline and could provide significant help to the Kansas City Chiefs.

That help comes in the form of wide receiver Amari Cooper, who is in the final year of his $100 million contract. If the Browns are smart, they will trade Cooper, who will almost certainly want out of Cleveland next year given the chaos there.

The Chiefs desperately need help at the wide receiver position following injuries to Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown, and Cooper would be exactly what Kansas City needs to fill the gaps.

With that in mind, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin suggests the Chiefs send the Browns a 2025 fourth-round pick for Cooper. Here are his thoughts:

“The Chiefs can get by with just about anyone with Patrick Mahomes under center and Andy Reid on the sidelines, but they would be much better if they didn’t have to lean so heavily on rookie speedster Xavier Worthy and aging tight end.” End Travis Kelce, looking for another title,” Benjamin wrote. “Cooper remains a polished route runner, but he appears to have been released from Cleveland for months and is languishing in one of the NFL’s most dysfunctional stints. He has what it takes to be what Jeremy Maclin was to Reid years ago.”

While Cooper’s numbers through six games are nothing to write home about, again Deshaun Watson. That really sums it up. He’s really, really bad.

When Cooper has a competent quarterback, he is one of the most consistent wide receivers in the NFL, having posted seven 1,000-yard seasons throughout his career, including four of the last five. His career high was 1,250 yards in 2023.

At 30, Cooper should have at least a few good years left in him, and for a fourth-round pick, it’s definitely worth finding out.

The Chiefs only have $4 million in cap space, so they’ll need to move some money around to accommodate Cooper, but they could do that by giving Cooper an extension that prevents him from being sent out on loan.

Whatever the Chiefs decide, Cooper should definitely be someone they consider to back up Patrick Mahomes and help find a three-peat.
