FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A man who witnessed a controversial traffic stop by two Fort Wayne Police officers says police need to listen to community concerns and work with them to resolve them.

Christian Beasley began recording when he saw FWPD officers Mason Wills and Matt Pierr talking to 29-year-old Tyjana Smith during a traffic stop. Beasley says he believes the officer’s actions were excessive.

FWPD released footage of the incident from body and dashboard cameras after witness video taken on Beasley’s phone was widely shared on social media, leading some to question the officer’s actions.

Wills was placed on leave in June after shooting 22-year-old Linzell Parhm.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Both officers involved in Monday’s traffic stop have been transferred to another department. However, it is unclear where they have been transferred to and what duties they will perform there.

Police and prosecutors are investigating the incident.

Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker issued the following statement on the situation.
