The Panthers broke a 20-year, 275-game trend with their Week 9 win over the Saints

Sunday was a one-off appearance by the Carolina Panthers. Not because they played anything but well, setting offensive records while putting the spotlight on the scoreboard, but because they pulled out a win after being outplayed in almost every facet by the New Orleans Saints.

The post above tells the whole story. The New Orleans Saints were, for the most part, the better football team on Sunday. Alvin Kamara was ever-present when the Saints had the ball and got everything he wanted on the floor. New Orleans’ defense largely held the Carolinas’ offense in check, stopping the Carolinas’ offense on six of 10 defensive possessions. On many occasions, like today, the Saints would have left Charlotte with an easy division win and righted their sinking ship.

Not so fast, my friend.

Penalties sapped New Orleans’ momentum over and over again (I was able to move on). The Saints were called for 10 penalties and lost 109 yards due to missed throws. A third-and-30 on their second-to-last offensive possession turned into a punt, giving Bryce Young and friends a chance to drive down the field and score the game-winning score.

Such a feat usually results in one or two heads being rolled. Dennis Allen, Derek Carr and Clink Kubiak led the Saints to the top of the NFL world after dominating Carolina and the Dallas Cowboys in the first two weeks of the season. It turns out they were always a paper tiger who enjoyed less resistance. Something has to change.

The unrest in and around the franchise has intensified in the hours following today’s game, putting all eyes on the Big Easy this week to see how the franchise responds to a frankly embarrassing loss to the Carolina Panthers.
