The Ohio State Buckeyes coach makes a bold statement about the loss at Oregon

Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes will return to action this week after a bye week.

The bye week came at a good time. In their last game, Ohio State suffered a heartbreaking loss on the road against the Oregon Ducks. It’s a defeat that should ultimately leave the team even more motivated than ever.

With all that said, Day commented on the loss to Oregon with a bold quote. He’s obviously motivated and it’s terrible for him that the Buckeyes came up short.

He also revealed that Ohio State sent the final play of the game to the NCAA. Day felt there was only a second left on the clock and that both he and wide receiver Brandon Iniss called a timeout the second Will Howard was on the ground.

“We sent it in. They said there was no time left,” Day said. “Brandon (Iniss) called a timeout. I stood next to the referee and called for a timeout. You can see it on the trainer’s copy. They said time was up. … It’s my job as head coach to make sure that if we get into that situation again, we win the game. Nobody works harder and nobody felt worse than me after the game. I’ll do everything I can to make sure it’s right.

He’s clearly still upset that his team came up just short. But he has accepted the loss and is now ready to move on.

This week the Buckeyes will look to bounce back strongly with a matchup against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Ohio State will face Nebraska and then move on to another big road game.

Following this week’s contest, the Buckeyes will hit the road to take on the currently No. 3 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. This is a game where Day and Co. have to find a way to win.

They are far from in trouble when it comes to being eliminated from the race for the College Football Playoff. However, if they had a resume that included losses to both Oregon and Penn State, that could make things interesting. If Ohio State wins, there is no doubt they would get in.

Still, fans should buckle up for the long run of the season. There are a lot of big games coming up, but it all starts this weekend against the Cornhuskers.

The Buckeyes are still frustrated with their loss to the Ducks, but they are motivated to win again and they have a lot to learn from the unfortunate loss.
