The New York Jets’ problems are mounting despite the addition of a star receiver

The New York Jets will have to find another way to cover up their loss this week as their latest excuse didn’t change the result last Sunday.

After another Sunday Football loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jets have now lost four games in a row. The 37:15 final away to the Steel City was another blunder in a season that had raised high expectations. Some may even talk about Super Bowl ambitions.

However, at 2-5, the Jets are far from seeing that end goal in their future plans. Assuming they even look beyond next week.

In recent weeks, the Jets have taken steps to make changes within the organization following some of their losses. These measures also overshadowed the team’s performance on the field, at least for a short time.

The latest move came after the Jets lost 23-20 to the AFC East leaders Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. The team eventually acquired Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders to reunite him with 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.

It didn’t seem to help much in his first game against New York, as Adams didn’t make much of an impact on the field. He finished the night with just three balls for 30 yards, all in the first half of the game. As the Jets tried to find a way to claw their way back into the game, the All-Pro couldn’t capitalize when the receiver had to step in and make a play. He was targeted nine times in the competition and only made it 33% of the time.

Although the team is still searching for its new identity following the firing of head coach Robert Saleh just two weeks ago, the clock is ticking for the 2024 season, which has many implications for the future of this organization.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas is entering the final season of a six-year contract he signed in 2019. If something doesn’t change quickly, the club could miss another year of postseason play – a drought that existed before Douglas and is over back in 2010.

Rodgers is under contract through the 2025 season, but would the aging star decide to hang up the deal for good if there is a massive shake-up in the Jets’ front office?

For the second straight game, the Jets’ defense wasn’t up to par, reinforcing suspicions that focusing on bolstering a disgruntled wide receiver was far from the team’s top priority. A receiver who, regardless of success this season, is expected to make over $35 million per season through 2026.

Adding Adams won’t solve all of the Jets’ problems. It won’t even come close. So don’t be too surprised if the team misses out on the Super Bowl or even the postseason in 2024.

The odds are not in the Jets’ favor.

Only one interim head coach has made the postseason in the Super Bowl era (the 2021 Las Vegas Raiders) and only two in NFL history (1961 Houston Oilers). No team made it to the Super Bowl.

What will the front office have up its sleeve to find a way to eclipse yet another defeat by the NFL’s worst-performing team?
