VAN BUREN, Mo – Ozark National Scenic Riverways (ONSR) is seeking expressions of interest to operate the historic Big Spring Lodge, guest cabins, and other associated buildings.

The site is located on the lower Current River, less than five miles from Van Buren, Missouri, at the end of State Route 103. While these buildings were previously used as lodging and food service establishments, the National Park Service (NPS) is seeking concepts and ideas for repurposing the buildings. In particular, the NPS believes that lodging, a conference center, event space, retail and food service operations could be appropriate.

The Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI) is an opportunity for parties to submit ideas and proposals for the reuse of these historic, recently rehabilitated facilities. The details of the RFEI with additional information can be found on SAM.gov by searching for Ozark National Scenic Riverways. A copy of the RFEI can be downloaded at RFEI for Big Spring Lodge (nps.gov/ozar/upload/BS-RFEI.pdf).

A site visit will be held on August 28, 2024 at 9 a.m. CDT. Only two people per entity are permitted to attend the site visit. All parties wishing to attend the site visit must email [email protected] to make a reservation no later than Friday, August 21, 2024 at 4 p.m. CDT.

All submissions in response to the RFEI must be received by October 11, 2024.

The NPS recently completed a major rehabilitation of the historic Big Spring Lodge, 14 cottages, a store, boat dock, hiking trails, and other related facilities and buildings. The project included extensive restoration and preservation of the original wood and stone structure, as well as extensive upgrades to aging utility systems and facilities. The boat dock and one of the cabins were upgraded to meet Architectural Barriers Act accessibility standards and provide an accessible experience for all visitors. Modern amenities and conveniences were incorporated while retaining the rustic charm that makes the area so special.
