The Nashville Predators’ frustration is boiling over their ugly defeat against the Florida Panthers

In a season full of ugly performances, the Nashville Predators may have outdone themselves on Thursday night against the Florida Panthers.

The Predators (4-9-1) were outscored in almost every way by the Panthers (10-3-1) in a 6-2 loss at Amerant Bank Arena, which is increasingly becoming a trend for this team. In fact, much of what happened on the ice was a repeat of what went wrong for Nashville in the first 13 games.

First, they had to accept another 2-0 deficit after goals from Sam Reinhart and Matthew Tkachuk, which came just over five minutes into the game. It was the eighth time this season that the Predators started with a multi-goal deficit.

As the Panthers continued to score, the Predators managed very few shots: They finished the game with just 18, including just seven in the third period. Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky wasn’t worried about most of them either – according to Natural Stat Trick, Nashville only had five high-danger chances at even strength.

Scott Wedgewood, who started for the resting Juuse Saros, was only able to stop 28 of 34 shots. Nashville’s goaltending has been better lately, but it was a disappointment on Thursday.

The Predators continued to let their emotions run high in the third period and engaged in aggression after the game whistle to gain control of the game. After an argument between Luke Schenn and Tkachuk, three Predators players temporarily occupied the penalty area.

Nashville finished the season with a season-high 24 penalty minutes, with Schenn leading the team with eight penalty minutes. The save to the penalty box reportedly ended the game early because the Predators didn’t have time to put their key offensive players on ice to mount a comeback.

Even the Predators’ penalty kill, a relative strength through 13 games, allowed two power play goals for the first time this season.

Those looking for positives can point to Steven Stamkos’ third power play goal of the season and Juuso Parssinen, who scored his third goal in as many games. But the game was so heavily in Florida’s favor that it’s hard to feel good about what happened to the Predators on Thursday.
