The new Mobile Suit Gundam movie will stream on Netflix for American viewers

Will join Netflix on September 1, 2024. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom joins the platform after enjoying great success at the box office. Released a decade after its predecessor, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destinyfirst broadcast on television, continues the story of the Cosmic Era timeline. This continuity, which is separated from the main timeline of the Universal Century of other Gundam Works, remains perhaps the most popular secondary universe in the series. The film centers on the feud between Compass and Blue Cosmos and is set two years after the second Cosmic Era anime entry.

The film joins the ranks of other Gundam Films on Netflix – namely the original trilogy of Gundam Movies. These movies retold the story of the original anime by shortening it and cutting out filler material. In the meantime, those who have not yet immersed themselves in the cosmic era timeline can catch up, as the first two Gundam SEED Anime are also on Netflix. This is along with movies and shows in the Universal Century timeline, although most of the newer anime, like Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch of Mercuryare available on other streaming platforms. With box office revenues of over $30 million Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom is the most successful film in the series to date. Due to its popularity, the first screenings in countries such as Great Britain were extended.
