New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor’s impact on the field apparently goes beyond his individual stats.

One pitch after Lindor singled in the second inning, third baseman Mark Vientos launched an opposite-field home run Sunday to give the Mets a 2-0 lead in Game 2 of the NL Division Series with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Vientos’ blast — the Mets’ second extra-base hit of the series, both by Vientos — came after Lindor told him something in the deck early in the game after Lindor struck out, FOX Sports replays showed.

“After Lindor strikes, he tells Vientos something. I don’t know what he said. He covered his mouth. But he told Vientos something,” Fox Sports’ AJ Pierzynski, a former MLB catcher, said on the FOX broadcast. … “Then he went to (Brandon) Nimmo, the next guy. Did he tip, did he do anything, did he see anything of (Cristopher) Sánchez? … That’s a change that’s happening right now.”

Vientos was 0-for-7 with six strikeouts against Sánchez to start the game. On Sunday, he went 2 for 2 with a double, a two-run home run and a walk against Sánchez.

In a game of adjustments, the left-handed Sánchez appears to have made his breakthrough and settled in. Nimmo singled after Vientos’ home run, but Sanchez retired the next seven batters with four strikeouts until Vientos walked in the fifth inning.
