The medium-duty electric truck Isuzu NRR EV is in production

It’s official – Isuzu has announced the official start of production of its highly anticipated new cab-on-chassis electric vehicle, the Isuzu NRR-EV (and I’m super excited about it).

I’ve been a fan of Isuzu’s medium-duty cab-over trucks for more than two decades, and often try to think of reasons to sneak one into the Borrás fleet. According to the company’s sales figures, I’m not alone – they’re the best-selling low cab forward trucks in America.

As Isuzu’s first electric truck, its production launch is being called a “significant milestone in Isuzu’s storied history” and underscores the brand’s commitment to sustainable transportation solutions that provide viable zero-emission offerings for North American commercial vehicle fleets. And just like Isuzu’s diesel NRR, the truck can be converted to work as a box truck for middle- and last-mile deliveries, a dump truck for landscaping work, or even as a sweeper (below) or garbage truck.

In other words, the new electric Isuzu NRR-EV is as versatile as its petrol and diesel predecessors. Perhaps even more versatile, considering Isuzu’s clever modular battery design allows the trucks’ range to be tailored to the needs of a specific fleet.

“The Isuzu teams overseas and here in North America have worked tirelessly to make the NRR-EV
from concept to reality,” says Shaun Skinner, President of ICTA and ICTC. “Start of production
marks a decisive moment for us. This vehicle not only demonstrates our technological capabilities, but
our commitment to sustainability and innovation. We are incredibly excited
our electric vehicle on the road and in the hands of our customers.”

Isuzu’s N-Series trucks are everywhere – and for good reason. Their diesel trucks have been reliable for decades. They’re affordable and backed by a nationwide network of GM dealers. Inside, they’re clean and offer excellent visibility. Add to that the flexibility of the modular battery design, the ability to use most of the Isuzu conversion options available in the industry, and the “Made in the USA” label, and you have a truck no fleet manager will ignore.
