The Legend Of Lara Croft review compared to its Netflix counterparts?

Netflix has just released the new series “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft,” which features Hailey Atwell Croft herself. A great actress, a famous character, and on a service with a solid history of animated game adaptations.

And Tomb Raider is just…well. It’s okay.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft has arrived to fairly average reviews, with a critic score of 69% and an audience score of 60%. And it debuted at number 9 on Netflix’s top 10 list, which isn’t great, and I think it’s more likely to go down than up from here.

I couldn’t really get into it beyond the first two of eight episodes as the animation and writing quality just isn’t really that good compared to other works. Speaking of other works, Tomb Raider has a lot of competition when it comes to Netflix gaming adaptations. Compare them:

  • Arcane – 100% Critic Rating, 96% Audience Rating
  • Cyberpunk Edgerunners – 100% Critic Rating, 95% Audience Rating
  • The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf – 100% Critic Rating, 83% Audience Rating
  • Castlevania: Nocturne – 96% critic score, 45% audience score (this bombed for reasons I can’t even remember now)
  • Castlevania – 94% Critic Rating, 89% Audience Rating
  • Captain Lazerhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix – 89% Critic Rating, 91% Audience Rating
  • The Dogma of the Dragon – 83% critic rating, 39% audience rating
  • Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft – 69% critic score, 57% audience score

I may be missing some, but the others I found don’t even have enough reviews for a score. And as such, Tomb Raider is at its lowest there. The quality here is just…poor. The series has fallen into a certain amount of culture war drama with the idea that the traditionally voluptuous Lara Croft isn’t attractive enough, but that’s neither the case nor has it anything to do with the series’ underlying problems. It feels like it’s a little reminiscent of Crystal Dynamics’ new Tomb Raider games, but instead it feels more like the instantly forgettable Alicia Vikander Tomb Raider movie. And we’re miles away from the silly but fun Angelina Jolie era.

It’s a shame that didn’t work out well. I mean, they’re not terrible Scores or something, technically “fresh” at the moment, but as you can see, Netflix has done a great job with so many of these other adaptations, and this one, which is 30 points below all the other adaptations, is unfortunately not what you see want.
