If you plan to vote in this year’s general election, today is your last chance to register to vote. How to check your voter status.

Visit indianavoters.in.gov and click “Check Voting Status” to make sure you are registered to vote in the county where you currently reside.

When you enter your information, your voter portal will open. There you will find out whether your voter registration is active, where your nearest polling place is and who is on your ballot.

The last day to register to vote in Indiana is 29 days before an election. This means the deadline for the 2024 general election is Monday, October 7th.

If you register to vote in person, it must be received at your county’s registration office by the end of the business day (for Marion County, that’s 4:30 p.m., according to Indy.gov). If you register to vote online or by mail, your application must be submitted or postmarked at the election office by 11:59 p.m

You have the right to vote in Indiana if:

  • You are a citizen of the United States.
  • They are based in Indiana.
  • You have lived in the district in which you are voting for at least 30 days before the election.
  • You are at least 18 years old. A 17-year-old can register as a voter as long as he or she has reached the age of 18 at the time of the election.
  • You are not currently incarcerated after being convicted of a crime. Hoosiers on probation, parole or house arrest can still vote.

To vote in person, you must have a valid Indiana driver’s license or ID issued by the state of Indiana, including an ID issued by a public school as long as it displays the student’s name, picture and expiration date.

You can register to vote by filling out a voter registration form and sending it to a elections office.

Where do I get the forms?: Voter registration forms can be downloaded online at the Indiana Secretary of State’s website or picked up in person at county trustee offices and Bureau of Motor Vehicles branches. In Marion County, voter registration forms are also available at public library branches.

Where to submit your form: The mailing address of each county’s election office and the mailing address of the state elections department can be found on the state’s online voter portal at IndianaVoters.in.gov.

When to send them: The state recommends that Hoosiers mail out their voter registration forms at least a week before the Oct. 7 deadline, which is Monday, Sept. 30.

This year’s general election will take place on Tuesday, November 5th. Polling stations are open on election day from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
