The largest American Airlines passenger of all time baked bread on a flight to Spain

Food influencer Maria Baradell, 37, from Dallas, flew American Airlines economy class from Chicago O’Hare to Barcelona on August 18 – and baked bread at her seat during the flight to enjoy at her destination.

I wanted to surprise my sister with a fresh loaf of bread. Making sourdough bread on a flight to Spain.

She mixes flour, water and sourdough in a collapsible bowl, then stretches and folds the dough. She explained that “baking sourdough bread takes time, so I thought a long trip like this would be perfect for it.” And she used hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes throughout the process to maintain cleanliness in a room that isn’t cleaned well between flights.

The video of their bread-making adventure has been viewed millions of times and most of the comments are negative. People often complain that they have seen other passengers gluten which seems strange considering that American Airlines bread as part of Meals on board. This is not a one-time exposure!

And the baker says she mixed the ingredients before her seatmates arrived and asked for permission when they were seated. Her seatmates loved it!

Unfortunately, she did not have access to the Boeing 787’s kitchen ovens and so had to wait until arrival to bake the bread she had baked.

After being criticized online for her efforts, she says she previously tried to take a jar of sourdough starter on a domestic flight in Canada, but it was confiscated from her. She faced extra scrutiny when she went through TSA security in Dallas, but followed all the rules and was able to take her ingredients with her.

The TSA inspected my bag in Dallas because I had flour in it (which of course can look suspicious). The flour, salt and sourdough starter passed TSA testing. Many people wonder how I got through security with these items, but they are allowed and many people in the sourdough community travel with their sourdough starters. We love to bake bread no matter where we go.

Four years ago, a man posted a video of himself grilling a steak in a Delta Air Lines bathroom, so… I guess? This man was also known for cutting the hair of the passenger in front of him on the plane when it hung over the back of the seat, blocking his entertainment screen.

And no one will ever be as much of a hero as the man who cooked garlic shrimp in a Delta Air Lines restroom and baby back ribs in a hotel bathroom.
