The Giants make a QB change while the Eagles are out

Giants backup quarterback Drew Lock came on for Daniel Jones with 11:26 left in the fourth quarter as the Eagles outscored them 28-3.

The 27-year-old Jones finished the game with 99 yards through the air on 14 of 21 passing and 20 rushing yards on five carries. He recorded neither a touchdown nor an interception.

The move came as the Eagles’ pass rush overwhelmed the Giants’ terrible offensive line with seven sacks and a loss of 56 yards. The Giants have dealt with brutal injury luck on their line this week, with All-Pro lefty Andrew Thomas undergoing season-ending foot surgery.

Left tackle Josh Ezeudu, a draft bust who was drafted in the third round in 2021, started at left tackle Sunday and the decline was noticeable.

The 2-4 Giants couldn’t get anything going on offense with Jones under center, as the team had just 104 total yards and nine first downs before his bench move in the fourth quarter.

Jones is on a $23 million injury guarantee, which would make it difficult for the owner to cut ties with him this offseason if he sustained a serious enough injury. Therefore, moving him to the bench was likely a way to save him as the offensive line was struggling.

The Eagles also made a QB change late in the game, with Kenny Pickett replacing Jalen Hurts as Philadelphia controlled the scoreboard.
