Today is October 5, 2024. And on this day in Texas history, the football team defeated Oklahoma State and started a long winning streak at home.

During the 1968 season, James Street threw two touchdown passes, leading UT to a 31-3 victory over the visiting Cowboys. With the win, which included a touchdown after a 26-yard interception return by future Texas athletic director Mike Perrin, the Longhorns improved their record to 1-1-1.

This victory over Oklahoma State began a 42-game winning streak for the Longhorns at Memorial Stadium. Next, Texas failed to record a home win, being beaten 30-0 by Houston on November 6, 1976. This remains the longest home winning streak in UT history.

Texas currently has an active streak of 11 straight home wins. The Longhorns were last beaten in Austin during the 2022 season.
